Cinema Club all-day screening

We are holding a cinema club day in the village hall. There is no entry fee or registration required to attend – just show up! The films chosen all have a local flavour, either being based on the area or filmed in the locality. Timings and films are as follows:
1-3pm: Nanny McPhee
4-6pm: Howard’s End
8-10pm: The World’s End

Weston Concerts – Guitar Concert
St Nicholas Church, Rectory Road, Stevenage
One of the most distinguished classical guitarists of our time, Croatian born Zoran Dukić won more international prizes between 1990 and 1997 than any other guitarist. Zoran rarely plays in this country, so this is an important event for guitar enthusiasts.

Talk with Harriet Kelsall
Harriet Kelsall is one of the most respected bespoke designers and business trailblazers working in the UK jewellery industry today.
She founded her multi-award-winning business from her kitchen table in 1998 and then started a wave to bring reachable bespoke jewellery design to the high street for the first time. She was the 2016 HSBC Forward Ladies “Retail Businesswoman of the year”, Everywoman’s “Retail Woman of the Year” in 2011, one of The Institute of Directors magazine’s six “women who have most changed the business world” in 2014 and is a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths and of the City of London. She advised the UK government via Creative and Cultural Skills Academy on jewellery skills from 2012-2018.
Harriet is passionate about helping creative businesses flourish and her book on the subject called ‘The Creative’s Guide to Starting a Business: How to turn your talent into a career’ which won at the 2019 Business Book of the Year Awards.
Harriet will give a talk followed by a Q&A session. 80 capacity free entry. Wine and cheese refreshments.

Join us for a fabulous Wine and Cheese tasting run in conjunction with The Wee Vinoteca, Hitchin’s leading wine bar.
The tasting of a selection of carefully chosen wines and cheeses will be hosted by Duncan Gammie, proprietor of the Wee Vinoteca who will introduce each wine and cheese pairing and guide us on the appreciation of both.

Recordare a capella concert
St Nicholas Church
Formed in 2018, this outstanding group consists of alumni from the Genesis Sixteen scheme, the Royal Academy of Music and former choral scholars from many of the UK’s leading collegiate choirs. Members have performed with the Tallis Scholars, The Gabriella Consort, Tenebrae and The Sixteen, as well as having solo careers in opera and oratorio.
Leader Harry Bradford was Genesis Sixteen conducting scholar 2018-19 and Alec Robertson Scholar at Westminster Cathedral. He also conducts the English Baroque Choir, the Thames Philharmonic Choir and North Herts Guild of Singers and won 2nd Prize in the prestigious 2022 Eric Ericson award in Stockholm, conducting the Swedish Radio Choir.

“Death by Chocolate – or Just Desserts!”
An evening of mystery and comedy, brought to you from the pen of David Pidgeon and a trusty band of local enthusiastic thespians!
Tickets are £20 each, to include plentiful platters of food (including interesting desserts!) on each table of 8 people. Proceeds will go to the British Red Cross Turkey Syria Earthquake Appeal.

Weston Concerts 100th concert ‘The Galliard Ensemble’
This is a very special concert to celebrate our 100th Weston concert, back in Holy Trinity Church. Now in its 24th year, the Galliard Ensemble is established as one of Britain’s leading chamber groups.
The ensemble has performed in many of the world’s leading venues and festivals, and frequently broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and around the World. Their educational work ranges from concerts for children to masterclasses at leading conservatoires and universities such as Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Vintage Car and cycle Display
The Letchworth Garden City Classic and Vintage Car Club picnic is to be held in the pretty rural location of Halls Green, nr Weston. Entrance fees are £5 for cars and, £2 for motorcycles and pedestrians. Cash or card. This event is the LGCCVCC’s annual picnic style meeting where classic and vintage cars are displayed and visitors are welcome to bring their own historic vehicles to show in the main part of the field. Guests in modern cars have their own parking area in the field too. Live music, along with food stalls and other stalls of interest are planned

As part of Weston Village’s celebration of 100 years of our village hall, Weston Music Society is putting on a concert to showcase the hugely talented performers we have in our local area. Whether the performers have grown up locally or decided to make Hertfordshire their home, all are connected to the local community. Come, listen and be inspired by performers of all ages and stages in their professional careers. With a range of instruments, music from classical to jazz and folk, and a Q&A with the performers. Westonbury
Back by popular demand, Westonbury Festival. We’re really looking forward to hosting this event, last year’s summer fete was a step towards bringing the festival back and was thoroughly enjoying by all those who came.
It will be held on the school grounds, with camping available for Saturday night. We already have some great singers booked and are currently seeking more singers and bands to add to the line-up. More information and announcements will follow.

Weston Garden Club Autumn Show
The Garden club has provided the school with seeds, pots, compost and growing instructions to two classes at Weston school . The plan is that the sunflowers will be judged in late August/early September and a prize awarded at the Garden club show on Sunday 10th September

Magic Night
A magical evening with Ian Keable who seamlessly. combines magic, mind reading and comedy to produce an endless stream of laughs and gasps. Ian is a Member of The Magic Circle with Gold Star. He has received The Magic Circle Comedy Magic Award and has also won the British Champion of Comedy Magic. He has written three books for the general public on magic and also two specialist books for the magic profession. 2 x 45 minute sessions of Hoaxes and Tricks. Table Tennis Tournament
Weston Table Tennis Club was set up last autumn and has the benefit of three tables to play on, one of them being an excellent new table kindly funded by the Parish Council.
We currently hold two playing sessions per week in the Village Hall, one on Tuesday evenings and the other on Thursday mornings. New members are always welcome, including beginners. Bats and balls are provided.
The tournament being held on Sunday 12th November in the Village Hall is open to Club members and anyone who lives in the village. There will be three separate categories of competition, namely Under 18s, Adults and Mixed Doubles, and there will be token prizes for winning players. Why not come along – you have nothing to lose!
